OFA Call Script Revision to Emphasize The Public Option

It is all well and good to say we shall call the members of Congress. But the current OFA Call Script is not only deficient but counterproductive to the efforts of other HCR Activist Groups like DFA, HCAN, DFL, PCCC etc.

All of us believe that PO is vital to Real Health Care reform. OFA also had it in its agenda until recently when the word Public Option disappeared mysteriously from its material including the call script.

If Barack Obama’s healthcare plan gets changed to exclude a public option like Medicare, then it is not healthcare reform. Legislation rises and falls on whether the American public is allowed to choose a universally available public option or not.
— Gov. Howard Dean, M.D.

This is the crux of the matter. Even though the Prez did not insist upon the PO he hailed its virtues. President needs the Congress to stand strong for PO in order for him to be able to sign it into law. Thus my message to Pete Stark in his recent Town-hall. PRESIDENT HAS LEFT THE DOOR OPEN FOR THE PUBLIC OPTION. YOU HAVE TO PUSH THE ELEPHANT THROUGH. WE HAVE YOUR BACK AS YOU ARE STILL STANDING STRONG WITH THE PROGRESSIVE CAUCUS PLEDGE “NO PO NO BILL”. ARE YOU?

Here are my suggestions for enhancing the CALL SCRIPT.

Thank you for your staunch support for HCR with a Robust Public Option. It is a misstatement to say that Public Option is just another feature of the HCR bill. That is like saying Heart is just another organ in the body. PO is vital to Real health Care reform.

This note is to reiterate our support for you as you continue to fight against the Washington proclivity for horse trading Public Interest in favor of corporate Interest. SO PLEASE STAND STRONG FOR PUBLIC OPTION. NO COMPROMISES. NO CLEVER TOOLS DEVISED BY CORPORATE TOOLS – SUCH AS COOPS OR TRIGGERS.
